Honeywell Vent Sanitizing: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
If your Honeywell UV air treatment system has stopped working or the indicator light is out, we stock the replacement lamps and parts for most Honeywell UV systems and install them across Fresno, typically for $280 to $520 depending on your model. Most swaps take under an hour once we’re at the house. The usual way owners find out the lamp has failed is simple: the system goes dark, or the air starts carrying that stale, closed-up smell again even though the fan is running.
Honeywell’s UV systems use a specific lamp wavelength and bulb length. When that lamp burns past its rated life, it’s not doing anything for your air, and running a dead UV system is just a small fan with a quiet hum that promises more than it delivers. We see this a lot in Fresno homes, where the AC runs hard from May through September and owners want every layer of air treatment actually working.
Key takeaways:
- We stock Honeywell UV lamps and ballasts on the truck for same-day replacement in most cases.
- Installed cost runs $280 to $520, written down before we touch anything.
- The lamp is the part that fails first, usually at the 9 to 12 month mark with heavy use.
- Every replacement is covered by our written 365-Day Done Right Promise.
Which Honeywell Models This Applies To
The most common Honeywell UV systems we service in Fresno are the UV100A and UV2400 series, plus the newer UV500 and UV2400A models. Each takes a different lamp length, and that’s where owners get tripped up. The UV100A uses a lamp roughly 14 inches long with a 4-pin base. The UV2400 series uses a longer lamp, closer to 18 inches, and it will not seat into the smaller housing. We’ve had more than one Fresno homeowner order a lamp online, only to find it’s the wrong length for their unit. The model number is stamped on a label on the side of the metal housing. Take a photo of that label before you make any call, including ours. It saves everyone a lap around the block.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Honeywell’s genuine lamps carry a 12-month rated life and are what we install by default. There are quality aftermarket equivalents that cost about 20% less and perform within spec, but we’ve seen enough variance in aftermarket ballast output that we don’t put them in without the owner’s clear go-ahead. For sanitizing, the lamp wavelength needs to be in the 254-nanometer UVC range. A cheap bulb that drifts off that spec is just a glowing stick.
One note for clarity: Linden Air Duct Fresno is an independent service provider. We work with Honeywell equipment constantly, but we’re not affiliated with Honeywell or its distributors. We just know their UV systems well enough to fix them right the first time.

Signs Your Honeywell Vent Sanitizing Is Failing
- The indicator light is out or blinking. On the UV100A, the lamp indicator glows steady when the lamp is within its useful life. A dead or blinking light means the lamp or ballast has failed, not that the unit is on standby.
- You smell the old smell coming back. UV sanitizing knocks down the microbial load in your air stream. When the lamp dies, Fresno’s dust and the usual bathroom and kitchen odors start hanging around again within about two weeks.
- The metal housing feels cold when the fan is running. A working UV lamp throws off noticeable heat. If the housing has been cold for a while, that’s a dead lamp or a failed ballast, and you’re paying electricity for nothing.
- Your allergies are flaring more than usual this season. It’s not a scientific test, but we hear this enough to take it seriously. When the UV system goes dark, the air quality in the house changes over a few weeks. If someone in the home notices the difference, trust them.
- It’s been more than 12 months since the last lamp change. Honeywell rates these lamps for 9,000 to 10,000 hours of run time. In a Fresno summer, with the blower running 14 to 16 hours a day, that lifespan gets used up fast. A lamp past its rated hours may still glow, but its output has fallen well below the level needed to sanitize anything.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fresno, expect to pay $280 to $420 for a UV lamp replacement on a standard single-lamp Honeywell system, and $380 to $520 if the ballast has failed too. What drives the range is which model you have, whether we’re replacing just the lamp or the lamp and ballast together, and how accessible the unit is in your ductwork. Some Fresno homes have the UV unit installed in a tight attic chase, and that adds a little labor. We’ll tell you the exact number before anyone gets on a ladder.
Every replacement includes the part, the labor, disposal of the old lamp (UV lamps contain a small amount of mercury, so they never go in the trash), and a written 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the replacement fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s not a mailing piece; it’s written on the invoice. Marcus Veale has never been comfortable quoting a price that changes once the van door opens, and that’s the standard the whole crew works to.

Here’s the honest split. You can absolutely confirm the lamp is dead by looking at the indicator and checking the run time. You can also power the unit down at the breaker, pull the old lamp, and read the model number. That information is useful, and you’re welcome to have it.
What we don’t recommend is wiring in a ballast on an in-duct UV system yourself. The ballast carries high voltage to strike the lamp, and the wiring sits inside a metal housing in your ductwork. Get that connection wrong and you’ll have a dead unit or a short. If it’s a lamp-only swap and you’re comfortable with the steps, fine. But ballast work or any uncertainty about the wiring is worth a phone call. Call (559) 272-4989 and we’ll give you a straight answer about what you’ve got and what it’ll cost to make it right.
FAQs
Plan on 9 to 12 months of useful life if your system runs heavy through the summer. The heat and long run times in the Central Valley eat through those rated hours faster than in cooler climates. Lucky you, you get to replace it once a year. We’ll put the date on the invoice so you know when it’s due.
Lamps are consumables. They get replaced, not repaired. The ballast, however, can sometimes be revived by cleaning the contacts, but our honest advice is to replace it if it’s over five years old. A tired ballast shortens the life of the new lamp, so you end up paying twice.
For a lamp-only swap on a Honeywell UV system, we’re usually in and out in 45 to 60 minutes. Adding a ballast replacement brings it to about 90 minutes. You’ll get a fixed quote before we start, so the time on the clock doesn’t change the price.
We keep the common Honeywell UV lamps and ballasts on hand, including the UV100A and UV2400 series. If you’ve got an oddball model, we’ll tell you on the phone and get the part ordered. Same-day service depends on what the label on your unit says, not on what we hope it says. Call (559) 272-4989 with that model number and we’ll tell you right then.
Get Your Honeywell System Working Again
If your Honeywell UV system is dark or you’ve lost track of when the lamp was last changed, call us at (559) 272-4989. We’ll ask for the model number, give you a written price over the phone, and send a technician whose name and photo you’ll get before they arrive. Every replacement is done to the Threshold Verified standard and backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If I wouldn’t leave it in my own house, I won’t leave it in yours.
